Poor Circulation
Diabetes often leads to peripheral vascular disease that inhibits a person's blood circulation. With this condition, there is a narrowing of the arteries that frequently leads to significantly decreased circulation in the lower part of the legs and the feet. Poor circulation contributes to diabetic foot problems by reducing the amount of oxygen and nutrition supplied to the skin and other tissue, causing injuries to heal poorly. Poor circulation can also lead to swelling and dryness of the foot. Preventing foot complications is more critical for the diabetic patient because poor circulation impairs the healing process and can lead to ulcers, infection, and other serious foot conditions.
What causes ulceration?
The most common cause of chronic leg ulcers is poor blood circulation in the legs. These are known as arterial and venous leg ulcers.Aqua-Relief about the device:

(Video) Aqua Relief System Hot and Cold Water Therapy SystemAqua Relief System has patented designed wraps that are fitted around the feet and hands. A diabetic sock/glove is worn first, and then a water bladder fits snuggly around your hands or feet to provide a custom like fit.
The hot water therapy unit also has therapy pads, that fit around any part of the body through the use of a compression wrap. Knee, shoulders, ankles, and backs, all can be treated by either hot (dry or moist) or cold water therapy.
Uses:
Aqua-Relief - Hot What exactly does Heat do?
- Heat improves circulation.
- Heat improves cell function (metabolism).
- Heat decreases stiffness in tendons and ligaments.
- Heat relaxes the muscles and decreases muscle spasm.
- Heat lessens pain.
Aqua-Relief - Cold What exactly does Cold do?
- Cold therapy with ice is the best immediate treatment for acute injuries because it can reduce swelling and pain. Ice is a vasoconstrictor (causes the blood vessels to narrow) and it limits bleeding at the injury site. Apply ice to the affected area several times a day.
- Cold water therapy is also helpful in treating chronic pain.
The Pain Management Benefits:
The natural therapy aqua relief system delivers pain relief to achy joints, or muscles due to arthritic pain , or carpal tunnel syndrome or many other nerve pain conditions. Hot therapy aqua relief system is a versatile hot/cold pack that will help for both systemic pain conditions as well as part specific pain conditions (knee, back, wrist, shoulder, etc.)
The Pain Cycle : Low back and neck pain may be caused by trauma or continual strain. The body responds to such pain with muscle guarding, an attempt to immobilize the painful site by tightening the muscles. Muscle guarding impairs circulation in the affected area. The decrease in blood supply leads to a decrease in metabolism with an accumulation of waste products. Moist heat modalities can help break this pain cycle and aid in the normal healing process.
The Diabetic Benefits:
The Aqua Relief hot cold therapy system uses heated water to help improve blood circulation in the hands and feet. Or, cold water can also be used to reduce swelling that is associated with diabetic neuropathy.

FAQs
What is an Aqua k Pad used for? ›
The natural therapy Aqua Relief System delivers pain relief to achy joints, or muscles due to arthritic pain, or carpal tunnel syndrome or many other nerve pain conditions. A setting of 110 F is particularly useful to provide deep penetrating therapeutic heat therapy.
How long do you apply an aquathermia pad? ›After the prescribed time for the treatment (up to 30 minutes), remove the aquathermia pad. Do not exceed the prescribed amount of time. Reassess the patient and area of application, noting the effect and presence of any adverse effects.
Should aquathermia pads be applied directly to skin? ›A water-flow pad such as an aquathermia pad, electric heating pads, and commercial heat packs are common forms of dry heat therapy. Dry heat devices are applied directly to the surface of the skin; for this reason you need to take extra precautions to prevent burns, dry skin, and loss of body fluids.
How long does cold water therapy take to work? ›5 Potential Health Benefits of Dry Brushing
Researchers found that cold water immersion was more effective than whole-body cryotherapy in lowering muscle soreness and perceptions of recovery 24 to 48 hours after exercise.
Additionally, people with certain medical conditions should not use heat therapy due to a higher risk of burns or complications. Types of conditions include diabetes, dermatitis, vascular diseases, deep vein thrombosis, and MS.
Can using a heating pad everyday be harmful? ›There are 4 well-known consequences of incorrectly using heat therapy products and services: Skin rash or burn. Prolonged use of hot packs and heating pads, or application of a heat source that is overly hot without a barrier on the skin, can cause contact burns.
Can a heating pad damage your skin? ›Toasted skin syndrome is caused by prolonged heat exposure to your skin, usually from heat sources like laptop batteries, space heaters, or heating pads. These heat sources can cause changes in your skin's cells and fibers, which can then create a discoloration on your skin.
Can you overuse a heating pad? ›Yet, leaving a heating pad on for too long can result in injury from burns and can potentially create a scenario of extreme inflammation in the body as the dilated blood vessels bring pro-inflammatory cells to the area warmed.
What are the benefits of a heating pad on your stomach? ›Another simple remedy for stomach pain is using a heating pad. Keep it on your stomach for 15 to 20 minutes. The warmth can relax the muscles in your gut and facilitate the movement of gas through your intestines, thereby relieving the discomfort.
Why shouldn't you sleep with a heating pad? ›Prolonging your skin's exposure to extreme temperatures can result in minor burns and dryness. Safety is the primary concern for health experts who recommend purchasing a modern heating pad with automatic turnoff timers.
What is an aquamatic or K pad? ›
Aquamatic and aquathermia (Aqua-K, K-Pad) pads are dry heat applications. They are electrical devices. These heating pads have fluid-filled tubes or coils that circulate warm water through the pads. Water conducts heat. Moist heat has greater and faster effects than dry heat.
What is a K pad? ›KPad is a unisex foam insertion that can be worn underneath abdominal binders or any compression garment covering the abdomen. KPad provides comfort and adds a layer of padded protection to the abdomen following surgeries such as tummy tuck or liposuction.
What are K pads in hospital? ›Circulating Water Heating Pads (K-Pads)
Like the hydrocollator pack, the circulating water heating pad is ideally suited for treating low back and dorsal spine pain. More flexible than hydrocollator packs, the circulating water heating pad can also be used on shoulders and extremities.
To activate the hot pack, you just need to open the package, shake it for a couple of times and then put it into your pocket to keep it warm. You do not have to know Korean words to be able to understand how high the heat will be or for how long the warmth of the hot pack will last.
